GIRLS ARE EARNING THEIR RESPECT IN WRESTLING CIRCLES
THERE WERE TREMENDOUS MATCHES ON TAP AT THE COUGAR WRESTLING DUALS.
February 5, 2022
Philadelphia, Pa. MLK High School
YBSPORTS COLUMN
Martin Luther King High School, a Philadelphia Public League School, is located just outside of the City’s busy terminals, yet it hosts one of the regions more anticipated wrestling extravaganzas, The Cougar Duals.
The duals can and has hosted anywhere from ten to twelve high school wrestling programs to through their doors during this one day event. And many of the schools come from much more affluent neighborhoods.
But this is high school wrestling and all are welcome and even those of the opposite gender. Take for example Wyomissing’s Renie Harris, an incredibly tough competitor who as a female competing in a male dominated sport, actuallys boasts a 6-3 record against…U guessed it, the boys.
When I last laid eyes on Renie she was putting the finishing touches on a Conestoga wrestler using a body press and headlock. I can say the same for Pottstown Savannah Richards who quickly disposed of a WC East wrestler using nearly the same pinning combination.
It’s refreshing to see that wrestling has embraced these changes within their sport but more importantly, has moved to create a more competitive division for the girls by starting a girls wrestling program at their institutions.

Wyomissings Renie Harris has been nothing short of spectacular wrestling for the Spartans this year.

YBSPORTS COLUMN
The Kirby Sports Center crowd seemed on the verge of getting treated to a spirited win by the Lady Leopard basketball team as the game closed in on the final minutes and the Leopards holding on to a slim lead.
But a controversial call by one official and a miscue by a leopard player underneath the Leopard basket, which resulted in American getting two free unwarranted free throws, left the home team trailing by 2 points with 45 seconds remaining.

Quakertown Head Coach George Banas has been quietly building a powerhouse in the west end of Quakertown with his football team. For the first time in as many years of their football existence, Banas has infused a mindset of new confidence and has methodically marched his team into places unknown during the PIAA post season.
This year Banas and his band of conquerors came within a few points of taking down a highly regarded and much accomplished Great Valley Football Team during their run deep into the piaa playoffs

KIRBY SPORTS COMPLEX - THANKSGIVING DAY TRADITION
Easton, Pa.
YBSPORTS COLUMN GAME 114
Easton won a closely contested game Thursday morning against its’ chief rival, the Phillipsburg Stateliners. The one thing you don’t want involved in a bucket list event is controversy and that’s exactly what happened!
Fisher Stadium, the home to Lafayette College’s Football Team, has hosted the game some have called the nations oldest high school rivalry, was again packed with an overflow albeit noisy crowd was again treated to great fanfare and excitement.

LEHIGH AND LAFAYETTE FOOTBALL… AND SO THE STORY CONTINUES
THE MOUNTAIN HAWKS END THE DROUGHT AGAINST THE LEOPARDS

YBSPORTS COLUMN
This game has been going on for a long time and if we’ve learned anything based on what history has shown us, it’s pretty much going to be decided by what happens on the field of play. Records means very little because these two schools don’t like each other
But that’s why we clamor like crazy to get tickets,! It’s more than a rivalry isn’t it! Saturdays game, which was held at Lehigh picturesque Goodman Stadium, had a lot weighing in the balance, most notably, the future of the Lafayette Head Coaching position. Lafayette didn’t do enough to win this game, but Lehigh didn’t exactly set the world on fire this bright and sunny day.

CHESTER FINALLY MAKES IT BACK TO THE PIAA FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS

The Kennett Blue Demons got a little more than they bargained for when they made the trip across 95 to take on Chester High’s much improved Football Team. Chester, sporting new uniforms played even up with a well coached Kennett team who is coached by a former NFL player. But none of that deterred the Clippers from putting up a gallant fight on their home turf. Chester seems new and improved at every facet of the game, more importantly, I like the direction their attitude is taking them. We can expect many more great things from the school in the near future.

NORTH CAROLINA WINS THE PAULIE SHORT RUN AT LEHIGH

Goodman Campus – South Mountain

Lower Saucon Township, Pa.
With the results of Friday’s Men’s 8K Gold race, North Carolina’s Director of Track & Field, and acting coach Chris Miltenberg could have filled two hot air balloons with enough hot air that would have carried them all the way back to Chapel Hill, NC.
Carolina outclassed 40 other teams but in the process outdueled the highly favored Villanova Wildcats to pull the trick. Miltenberg’s harriers which were comprised of Parke Wolf, Jack Aho, John Tatter, Will Coogan, Marshall Williamson, Etahn Strand, Jesse Hunt, Mike Spragley and Crawford Hope left little doubt that they were deserving of their 23rd ranking nationally totaling 56 points to outpace Nova.

KENNETT LOSES TO RADNOR A SECOND TIME THIS SEASON
Radnor 10 Kennett 2
June 12, 2021
West Goshen, Pa.
For as many times as they’ve met this season, the Radnor boys’ lacrosse team stifled the Kennett High School Blue Demons, only this time the consequences were much greater. Playing as if they had everything to lose, Radnor stepped on the gas and never took their foot off of it in handing Kennett just their second loss of the season.
But lethargy can have its drawbacks can’t it? In this case, the lethargic play of Kennett’s defense, or possibly the blue demons inability to solve the Radnor onslaught cost them a chance to hoist up the PIAA 3A championship trophy at West Chester East’s beautiful Zimmerman Stadium.
The one bright light for Kennett is that they will be returning some incredibly good players for Coach Bob Allford for the 21-22 season and it is probably a safe bet to say that they will be back again at Zimmerman next year fighting for the same thing. Outgoing senior captain and the Ches-Mont’s MVP Sam Forte played a brilliant game in a losing cause.
