Predicted Team Champion; It’s hard to bet against Coach Cael Sanderson… He’s got that serious demeanor, he never gets too high, and he never gets too low, and he always has that “don’t try and game me” face going on. The Pick – We ARE.

Since its’ acceptance into the BIG 10 family of sports, The University of Rutgers teams have competed respectively at every level, regarding all of the related sporting categories. Most recently, the university’s men’s and women’s basketball teams have captured the admiration of just about every college basketball fan in the northeastern part of the country, as both clubs have shone as brightly as the North Star, on a clear winter’s night.
But this weekend the Scarlet Knight family takes another big step towards fulfilling one of the goals its’ former president, and great visionary, Dr. Robert Barchi, had dreamed of when it hosts the Big 10 wrestling championships at The RAC. Dr. Barchi's dream I am certain, was that his beloved University would find itself totally embraced and totally accepted into one of college sports most respected leagues, a league that has long gained notoriety as one of the most enduring and revered leagues in all of college American sports.

Lehigh University’s Mountain Hawks have wrestled at, or near the top of the college wrestling world for much of the past ten seasons. It has produced it has produced several national champions, and a who’s who list of EIWA champions. Coach Pat Santoro, a Bethlehem graduate, and a discipline from the Tony Aisello wrestling tree, has wisely selected the local product from a talent laden Lehigh Valley area and beyond, and quietly created a program that is highly respected, and to many, feared across the collegiate wrestling world. But this weekend, the former engineers takes its’ place among the pantheon of sports localities when it hosts The EIWA championships at its’ spacious Stabler Arena, on the schools’ picturesque South Mountain Campus.

YBSPORTS STAFF COLUMN,
Game number 155 of this storied rivalry will be played this Saturday at Lehigh’s beautiful Goodman Stadium. Kickoff for the Nation’s most played college football rivalry is at 12:30pm. The Mountain Hawks and The Leopards were both entangled in a fight for Patriot League supremacy two weeks ago. But a loss to a Sacred Heart team that had never beaten the Hawks, pretty much ended any hope of them playing for the top spot this Saturday. Conversely all Lafayette had to do was beat Colgate at home last Saturday, but fell to The “Gate” by a score of 16-0 at home. These two teams last met at Goodman in 2017 with Lehigh winning in a shootout. Both enter this game with losing records, but that won’t matter especially for the sellout crowd that will be in attendance.
The series record stands at, (78-71-5) in favor of The Lafayette College Leopards, but the Mountain Hawks, after winning the last five, can really tighten things up with a win on Saturday. Click on the (Lehigh vs Lafayette) tab to the left, for a reminder of how these games generally go.

NEW BRUNSWICK DRUBS UMAINE IN COLLEGE ICE HOCKEY
Varsity Reds - 05 . . .Black Bears - 00
Orono, Me.
Harold Alfond Arena,
YBSPORTS STAFF,
The Varsity Reds Men’s Ice Hockey Team made the trek from Canada down to Orono, Maine and showed The Black Bears why they’ve won five National Championships in the land where hockey was created. Showing a skating prowess that would envy many NHL teams, The Reds from New Brunswick Canada, seemed to skate circles around The Black Bears and score at will. By taking the crowd out of the game early by going up three to zip in the first period, the host team were never able to find its’ rhythm and fell to the skating phenoms’ five to zero.
