RUTGERS 24……………………………NORTHWESTERN 7
Ybsports Staff Commentary,
Rutgers University keeps us guessing as to which ‘Big Energy” days are more in the offing than not! On Saturday, the Scarlet Knights went on a rampage and jumped all over a disheveled Wildcat team in their Big Ten opener. Playing as if they had something to prove, Rutgers moved the ball at will on occasion as the Cats played their first game after a serious hazing incident that cost Head Coach Fitzgerald his job. Unveiling a stifling defense, the opportunistic Knights shutout the visitors allowing the only score with just 20 seconds left to play

Lafayette Catches Bucknell in Its' trap, Moves To 4-1 …(RH)…… 2023
THE LEOPARDS CONTINUE THEIR PRECISION PLAY AGAINST THE BISON
LAFAYETTE COLLEGE 56……………………………BUCKN BUCKNELL UNIVERSITY 22
College Hill, Easton, Pa.…………………… Fisher Stadium
Ybsports Staff Commentary,
Generally a contender for a playoff spot in the competitive Patriot League, the Bucknell Bison's Football Team appears to be struggling early in the seasoon. It is surprising to me to see the Lewisburg school sporting a 1-3 won-lost record at this stanza in their campaign. But you know what isn't a surprise to me , Lafayette College has jumped out to a 4-1 record and is without a doubt the Leopards are going to be one tough out this season. Considering the Pards' went through a chainsaw of opponents a year ago no thanks to it's outgoing coach, that scheduling gave them no other option but to sink or swim. And swim they did as the Leopards played tough in every single game they lined up with and that includes a [owerful Wm ( Mary club that featured some top Division I talent. And for their no quit approach through a meat grinder of a schedule, their reward is a sparkling 4 and one slate and the nod, at least from my perspective, as the shoo in to win the Patriot League title.
People ask, is Lafayette College good at football? My answer to that is yes, and I would attribute most of their success to one name...Troxell. Athletic Director Sherrita Williams has done a marvelous job up on 'The Hill' and one of her best acquisitions has been the services of Head Coach John Troxell In case you're wondering what is the significance of that name, the answer to that can be found in the hallowed chapters of Phillipsburg High School's sports lore. Simply put, they are winners and all of Leopard Nation is happier because of it. It's no wonder Coach Troxell is so well grounded in his approach to the X's and O's and you would only need to look no further than his parents. Having sought out the pair during Coach John's inaugural start at Fisher Stadium, I wanted to sit next to them and take in their admiration of their son being given such an enormous responsibility of returning the Lafayette Football program to prominence. During those first three games and talking with the patriach and Matriarch of the Troxell family, I was humbled and reminded of how fortunate the Troxell kids were to have grown up under the guidance of these two near perfect people. And if things continue going in the same direction as it has this season, Coach Troxell and the Leopards will have a lot to cheer about in the coming years.

Delaware Valley College has built an impressive reputation in Division III College Football. Yesterday Alvernia University found out how just how good the Aggies are as the visiting team from Doylestown, Pa. turned in a sub par performance, yet they managed to hold off the game Golden Wolves Big Energy. In a steady rainfall the Aggies running game prevailed and carried the team to a well fought win. Alvernia trailed the Aggies by just seven points at the half, but Del Val tacked on two touchdowns near the end of the third quarter to take a commanding lead. In fact at the five minute mark of that quarter, the visitors still held onto a 7-0 lead. Three minutes later the scoreboard read DelVal 21, and Alvernia 12.The 24th ranked Aggies would add one more touchdown in the fourth to make the final score 28-12 and move to 4-1 on the season.

Albright Lions (0-5) Stevenson Mustangs- (4-1)
Stevenson University scored in every quarter of it's Division III MAC Conference game against Albright College in Reading, Pennsylvania yesterday afternoon. Under dreary and rainy skies, the only positive thing the Lions could do was keep the score respectable in the first two quarters. Trailing by a 10-0 margin to start the third quarter, Albright allowed Stevenson's two big weaponds Nyaire Wilson (134) yards running and Elijah Marquez, (116) yards passing to start producing. The result was one sided win for the visiting Mustangs from Stevenson. Albright's dual threat Quarterback Isaiah Shockley, the senior, managed only (39) yards in the air and just (23) yards on the ground running the football. Stevenson improved their record to 4-1 to keep pace with powerful Delaware Valley College, and Albright was left seeking their first win of the year.
