NCAA ICE HOCKEY FINAL FOUR REGIONALS
Michigan 7 Quinnipiac 3
Allentown,Pa. PPL Building
YBSPORT STAFF COLUMN
For two full periods the top seeded Wolverines representing The BIG 10, looked as if they had been dealt a mismatch after they took a 4-0 lead going into intermission. But within six minutes into the third period Quinnipiac, the ECAC Hockey Kings, had pulled to within a two goal margin and added another goal within five minutes after that to make it a 4-3 contest. GAME ON! With about four minutes and change left on the clock, Michigan then went a short scoring run of their own by tacking on three more goals to end the scoring and secure their first Frozen Four trip since 2018.
Quinnipiac goalie, Yaniv Perets, a finalist for this year’s Hobey Baker Award ended up number one in the nation in goals scored against him, and had not yielded this many goals at one time the entire season, but Perets had not encountered a group the likes of this year’s crop of Wolverines who have a record seven first round NHL draft picks selected. He also recorded eleven shutouts this year which is no easy feat when you consider the ECAC boast some of the toughest collegiate hockey teams in the country. Michigan’s Nolan Moyle was a one man wrecking crew hitting the first two Michigan goals under assists from Jimmy Lambert and Owen Power while Quinnipiac went silent for the first forty minutes of this all important contest.

BROWN AND PRINCETON ICE HOCKEY ENDS IN A TIE AT HOBEY BAKER ARENA
Princeton, Nj. ECAC HOCKEY
YBSPORTS COLUMN
The Lady Tigers put on a pretty impressive display of hustle last night at its’ famed Hobey Baker Arena on Princeton’s campus. After trailing 1-0 going into the second period, Princeton’s Solvieg Neunzert rifled a shot that just skimmed past Brown’s goalie, Kaley Doyle to tie the game at one goal apiece.
About four and a half minutes later following a serious scrum in front of the Brown goal, Mia Coene tapped home the puck just inside the Bears netminder’s left leg giving Princeton a 2-1 lead. Brown would eventually tie the game on a shot by Anna Hurd in the third period where the score remained tied until the end of regulation.
One bright spot for area fans was the play of Brown’s Junior Sonja Bjornson of Lower Merion area just outside of Philadelphia. Bjornson, who gets a good amount of ice time for the Brown Bears, displayed an excellent defensive prowess, a keen eye as well as an ability to add another dimension of assisting ability on quick offensive turnarounds.
After playing to a scoreless sudden death extra period the game was recorded as a tie leaving both teams rethinking their strategy for tomorrow’s games. Princeton will be hosting Yale in their last home scheduled game and Brown will travel to Quinnipiac.

PRINCETON’S LADY TIGERS KEEP IT CLOSE AGAINST THE FAVORED RAIDERS IN ECAC ICE HOCKEY
Princeton 1 Colgate 3 -
Princeton, NJ. . ECAC at Hobey Baker Ice Arena
January 29, 2022
YBSPORTS COLUMN
Colgate’s Women’s Ice Hockey Team flaunts a pretty gaudy record at 22 wins and 4 losses. One might think that the Lady Raiders would just stroll into Hobey Baker and pick up an easy win, right? Not so! The Lady Tigers from Princeton showed that there isn’t all that much that separates the two teams even though Princeton’s record looks average.
After Colgate’s Eleri Mackey pushed the goal past the Princeton goalie early in the first quarter, Princeton’s solid defensive play kept the Red Raiders scoreless for the rest of the quarter.
Then at the midway point of the second perid The Tigers Annie Kuehl evened things on the scoreboard after she banged home a put back during a scrum right in front of the Raider goalie. Colgate added two more goals before the final horn sounded but the outcome was much closer than the score indicated.
The Shots On Goal favored the Red Raiders of Colgate by a 37 to 14 margin.

UMAINE’S ALYSSA WRUBLE MAKING AN IMPACT FOR MAINE’S WOMEN’S ICE HOCKY
January 2022
Alyssa Wruble couldn’t have made a better choice for where she wanted to continue her post high school ice hockey career than the University of Maine at Orono. In selecting UMaine, as it is affectionately referred to in state, she picked a school that not only has great pedigree but one that competes in the incredibly competitive Hockey East Conference.
On a game to game basis, Alyssa gets a considerable amount of ice time for The Lady Black Bears and knows what to do with it when she’s out there. Playing in a conference with the likes of New Hampshire, Boston College, UMass, Northeaster Holy Cross, Vermont, Merrimack and other hockey giants of the northeast, she seems unfazed by the pressures a freshman would be confronted with when going up against these giants.
As a respected player on Maine’s Hockey Team she has represented herself well and has served notice that Miss Wruble is here to stay. What is so ironic about her great start as a UMaine player is that as a Freshman playing in one of her first games, on Long Island New York, Alyssa scored her first Goal.
